Frequently asked questions about Flax Clean
Why is foreign material in flax and hemp a problem?
Foreign material such as rope, plastics, metal, feathers and stones causes quality problems in the end product and can damage machines. Manual inspection is time-consuming and inconsistent. Flax Clean checks the fibre stream continuously, ensuring uninterrupted production and a pure end product.
How does Flax Clean work?
A camera and an LED light strip are mounted above the conveyor belt. AI software analyses the images at high speed and recognises foreign material in the fibres. When it detects something, the system immediately sends a signal to stop the machine; depending on your process, an automatic removal system can also be triggered. An image of every detection is saved for further analysis.
What components does Flax Clean consist of?
A camera, an LED light source, an AI computer, a speed encoder and a vision box with touchscreen. Covicon supplies the mounting to attach the encoder to your existing conveyor belt. The standard vision box measures 1250 × 875 × 1250 mm; if the electrical cabinet is installed separately, the unit is about 400 mm wide. The system works best on a matte black conveyor belt.
